How To Get Ready For The Busy Season

An estimated 80% of moves in the United States occur between April and September, falling heavily during the summer months of June, July, and August. This time period is often called “the peak season” of moving. Between children being off from school and the warmer weather, it makes sense that many people choose to move during this time. While the start of the busy season is still a little ways off, there’s no better time than the present to start preparing.

Keep Up With The 2022 Climate

In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, many customers are seeking certain standards for the services they invest in. This could mean adding a message to your website pledging a commitment to masks, vaccinations, and social distancing when possible. It can also mean expanding your online tools, such as offering an online moving quote calculator or virtual onsites.

Prepare Your Crew

During the busy season, it’s not uncommon to have several moves scheduled a day. It’s important that your crew is prepared both mentally and physically for that reality. Use the months leading up to the busy season to get your crew into shape. That can mean training, physical check-ups, and a best-practices refresher.

Double Check Equipment

The last thing you need is for a truck or dollie to malfunction on a fully booked moving day. Do a test run of all your equipment and vehicles to make sure everything is working as it should. If things need tweaks or repairs, now is the time to do them.

Make Contingency Plans

Demand during the busy season skyrockets – make sure your moving company is prepared to be able to capitalize on it. That may mean hiring part-time crews during the peak months to perform additional moves. You may also want to look into leasing additional trucks and buying/renting more equipment. If you offer storage services, look into renting additional units to meet the increased demand. Target The Right Audiences

Who moves during peak season? Typically, it’s students moving in and out of university, families with children on summer break, military families relocating, temp workers/interns, and older people looking to move in the warmer months. Tailor your online marketing accordingly – target ads towards these groups, or offer special military or student discounts.
